Ratoath residents with homes along the road leading to the town's second level school, Ratoath College, Jamestown townland, have voiced their concerns regarding the level of traffic and disruption caused to the area on school days.

The short road leads from the Ratoath bypass up to the school but also services the athletics club, tennis club and rugby pitch, making the small stretch incredibly busy at times. Residents take exception to the heavy traffic and speeding and the general commotion and noise caused by the few students who do walk to school.

When the college was built, there was an understanding that an alternative access road would be built to service the school and eliminate the need for such heavy traffic on the residential thoroughfare. This was to be funded and implemented by the developers, who are now unable to fulfil this obligation.

A recent planning application has been filed by County Meath Vocational Education Committee to develop the site on Jamestown Townland. The application was filed on the 12th of September of this year and the proposed development consists of an extension measuring approximately 3,288 square metres to provide 25 new teaching spaces, a special needs unit, toilets, ancillary accommodation, and necessary circulation including three new stair cores. The application also comprises 14 new parking spaces along with the associated site works for the development.

The tennis club, rugby club and athletics club are very popular and are also fundraising in order to build a multi-purpose sports complex that they hope to begin within the next five years.
