Margaret and Martin Power are sure to enjoy a very merry Christmas this year, having scooped over €4,000 worth of prizes from Ashbourne retailers.

The couple, from Bachelor's Walk in Ashbourne, were the winners of Ashbourne Retail Association's 'Winner Takes All' competition. Run in association with Ashbourne High Street and Ashbourne Chamber of Commerce, the competition was the central feature of the town's 2013 Shop Local campaign.

The Powers collected their 53 prizes at the official announcement on Saturday at High Street Ashbourne.

In order to win the bounty, participants had to guess the total value of all prizes up for grabs. The winning guess of €4,175, which was entered in Margaret's name, was just €1 off of the actual value of €4,176.

The competition, which was supported by the greater business community in Ashbourne, was open to everyone and entry was free and unlimited. Tickets were given out with every purchase made at a participating shop over the past four weeks.

Prizes include meal vouchers, clothing, beauty treatments, electronics, a number of hampers, jewellery and much, much more.

Margaret and Martin, who were accompanied at the prize giving by their children and grand children, were over the moon to win such an exceptional prize, and thanked the retailers of Ashbourne.
