The referendum result for Meath East is in, with the no vote winning out. Of 23,904 valid votes, 52.6% voted no to the bill and 47.4% voted yes.
Tally figures as boxes were opened at Donaghmore Ashbourne GAA club this morning showed that voters in Dunshaughlin were narrowly in favour of abolition, with 51% voting 'Yes'.
However in Dunboyne, Ashbourne and Ratoath, the 'No' vote won out.
This Irish Times reports that many Dublin constituencies appear to have rejected the referendum on the abolition of the referendum while it looks like rural Ireland is voting 'Yes' to abolition in what promises to be a tight referendum result.
