The inaugural launch of the new Ashbourne Business Network was held recently, with a large number of local businesses represented, along with a number of guests from the greater Ashbourne community.
Part of Ashbourne Chamber of Commerce, the new network aims to bring local businesses together to form a strong referral network within the town and further afield.
A structured meeting format gives local business people the opportunity to communicate their commercial goals in a effective way. Each member gives a 60 second speech, which ideally highlights specific objectives he or she would like help achieving.
The launch meeting was facilitated by chairperson Nick Somers and membership co-ordinator Brendan Newe, who emphasized the importance of members helping one another to build strong networks. Newe says the best networkers are always on the look-out for opportunities to help their fellow members. "Don't come to sell anything. Think about helping someone else. Everyone brings something to a meeting, be it knowledge or contacts, which can help someone else," he said, "If I help you, you will want to help me."
Also present at the launch meeting were invited members of the public, including representatives from local charities which have benefited from recent Chamber fundraising initiatives. Ashbourne Chamber PRO Alan Tobin gave special mention to Gerry McCabe of Ashbourne Tidy Towns, Mary Carey of Special Olympics Ashbourne, Tadg Riordan of Ashbourne St Vincent de Paul, Ian Jenkinson and Gerry Traynor of the Lions Club and Freda Doherty of Ashbourne Meals on Wheels. The group meets once a fortnight, on Wednesday mornings from 7:30-9:00am at the Pillo Hotel, Ashbourne. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, 23rd January.
