All Ireland gold for local athletes

Keith Marks and Shane Joyce.

Ashbourne Community School athletes Keith Marks and Shane Joyce performed very strongly in the recent schools events at Meath, North Leinster, Leinster and All Ireland levels.

Keith, from Duleek, continued his excellent year's progress in the junior high jump by winning the gold medal in Meath, North Leinster, Leinster and All Ireland schools. Marks cleared 1.76m in both the Leinster and All Ireland events.

Shane Joyce, from Cushinstown, also won gold medal in the junior triple jump in Meath, North Leinster, Leinster and All Ireland with a best jump of 10.96m over the course of the events. Joyce also won gold in the junior javelin in North Leinster and the silver medal in the Leinster and All Ireland with a best throw of 43.27m. Both Marks and Joyce are members of Cushinstown AC.

Another Cushinstown AC athlete to perform well in the All Ireland level is Skryne's Elizabeth Morland, who won a bronze medal in the junior high jump and was also a member of the the relay team which medalled in the 4 x 100m event. Elizabeth also won gold in the junior high jump in Leinster schools.

All three athletes are now busy training for the Leinster and All Ireland Outdoor Track & Field in Tullamore coming up at the end of June.
